Childminding Volunteer

Commencing Program runs September through June, with the possibility of an additional 4 wks during the summer (days determined by English Language Class schedule)
Ending June, 2018 (determined by English Language Class schedule) with possibility of shifts in July, 2018
Description of Position
Objective of Position: To offer the preschool aged children quality childminding while their parents participate in English Language classes at Cowichan Intercultural Society (CIS).

Position Activities:
To support the staff in providing a safe and stimulating program for children (infants to age 5).
To interact and care for the children in a manner that supports the objectives of the childcare staff.

Requirements of Volunteer:
• Love children
• Experience with preschool aged children, particularly in groups
• Be comfortable taking direction from childminding staff
• To bring sensitivity and cultural awareness to working with children and families from diverse backgrounds
• Be physically able to engage in physical play outdoors and on the floor play indoors
• Preferences: Leadership experience (could be teachers, youth workers, etc.)
• Must be cross-culturally sensitive
• Must be able to modify speech depending on the audience
• Able to initiate conversation, but be patient to wait for answers
• Must not engage with personal (social) media throughout the duration
• Current criminal record check on file

• Fun, relaxed atmosphere to interact with CIS clients
• Able to engage in relationships with newcomers
• Personally impact progress in English language and academic learning
